Finance teams sometimes dread the implementation of a new system. Why? The reason is simple. Some software providers are focused on getting the sale done, rather than providing value-adding service to help the user increase their efficiency and productivity. As a result, the implementation process often sounds much better when the salesperson is selling it than it really is in reality. Just imagine having to deal with the technical issues of deploying on top of the daily business activities without having any expertise to solve the implementation issues.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that every company should just simply avoid investing in any new software at all. After all, the right CPM software can improve a company’s efficiency and productivity if it is property integrated into the current workflow.
When deciding on which CPM provider to buy from, one has to put serious consideration on the solution provider’s after sales/implementation support. After all, if the company buys CPM software with poor after sales support, it is akin to buying a Ferrari and having to assemble it on your own.

Features (e.g. drag-and-drop function) that give CPM software flexibility for its users to re-orientate their own dashboard to suit their personal habits and needs will enhance the whole user experience. Employees will not dread learning a new software and would be enthusiastic in their learning.
Apart from good user experience, the implementation time can also be an important deciding factor. If it takes few years to implement the solution, the requirements could have changed by the time it is implemented. Instead, go for solutions that offer quicker and easier deployment. This will greatly reduce the amount of implementation time required.
3. Brand Name vs Value Of Solution. What Should You Choose?
Decades of brand marketing has led to a mistake that people often fall prey to, i.e. choosing big and well-known brands with the mentality that bigger brands have better products. However, that is not necessarily true. The sheer size of the solution provider should not be the main consideration. Bigger brands might not necessarily provide software applications that are superior, especially if we compare them to more specialized solution providers. Instead, a company should consider how much value the solution provider can bring to them.
While bigger brand names might also provide similar solutions, the solution might just be “one of the many modules” that they offer. While they might offer similar functionality, specialized software providers usually offer a much more specialized solution than the bigger brand names. Specialized software providers then design their solution with their customers’ requirements in mind. Thus, in making the decision to buy a CPM software, brand recognition should not be the deciding factor. The company has to analyse which CPM software provider’s solution can bring more value to the company for the required purpose.
